Why Your Business Social Media Is Getting Likes but No Enquiries — And the One Change That Fixes It

By Santosh Kumar | May 20, 2026 | Social Media,Paid Marketing

You post consistently. The content looks decent. Some posts get good engagement. But when you look at how many actual enquiries, calls, or website visits come from your social media activity, the number is close to zero. This is one of the most common frustrations we hear from business owners in Chennai who are investing time and sometimes money into social media with very little commercial return.

The problem is not the platform. It is the strategy — or the absence of one.

The difference between social media presence and social media performance

Presence is posting. Performance is posting with a specific outcome in mind and measuring whether you achieved it. Most business social media accounts are built for presence — to look active, to seem professional, to satisfy the feeling that something is being done. Performance-focused social media is built around a question: what specific action do we want someone to take after seeing this post?

Content that gets likes is not the same as content that gets enquiries

Inspirational quotes, national holiday graphics, and behind-the-scenes team photos get engagement. They do not generate business. Content that generates business solves a real problem, answers a real question, or demonstrates a specific capability that a potential client needs. The ratio of ‘awareness content’ to ‘conversion content’ in most business social media accounts is dramatically wrong.

The missing element: a clear path from post to enquiry

Most social media posts end with nothing. No instruction, no link, no reason for a reader to do anything other than move to the next post. Posts that generate enquiries end with a specific invitation — to send a message, to click a link, to call a number, to visit a page. This sounds obvious. The vast majority of business social media posts in Chennai do not do it.

The one change

Restructure your social media calendar so that at least 30% of your posts are directly designed to generate an action — an enquiry, a website visit, a message. Make every one of those posts end with a specific call to action. Measure the results separately from your engagement metrics. Within 60 days, you will have a clearer picture of what is actually working commercially — and what is just creating noise.
